Milk magic for toddlers

Your child’s nutritional needs are constantly changing.

Venerdì 9 Ottobre 2015

Your child’s nutritional needs are constantly changing.

Around the age of 1, your toddler experiences a tremendous increase in physical growth and mental capabilities. Toddlers need up to 5 times more nutrients than adults! That is why it is important that your child’s diet contains the necessary elements for healthy growth and development.

Let us take a quick look at some of the micronutrients your child needs: Iron is responsible for transporting and storing oxygen in the red blood cells, and aids cognitive development. Your baby has lots of stored iron at birth, but gradually depletes this at about 5-6 months. Zinc is important for the division and growth of cells, and in the immune and reproductive systems of your baby. Iodine plays a major role in the growth and development of the brain and central nervous system, as well as for physical growth. Vitamin A is very important for good eyesight, while the B group vitamins are responsible for the optimal release of energy from food. Calcium helps the growth of strong teeth and bones, and vitamin D helps with the absorption of calcium.

Protein is the most important macronutrient for the development of muscles in the body, and ensures optimal growth of your child’s brain.  As toddlers eat solid foods, their protein consumption can increase significantly when the amount of milk they drink (recommended two cups per day) is combined with other protein sources like fish, meat and grains. This can result in a protein diet that exceeds the recommended daily allowance for children between the ages of 1 and 3 years (13g/day). This, in turn, could be harmful to your child’s health, and can lead to a disposition for overweight later in life.

Growing Up Milk (GUM) is a formula that provides healthy levels of nutrients such as protein for your child. It provides high-quality protein in quantities adjusted to your toddler’s needs.

The protein content in GUM is reduced (2.1g/100ml) and adapted to contribute to a protein-supply that is well-suited for toddlers. GUM therefore ensures that your child gets a suitable amount of this essential element.

GUM also benefits your child’s health because it remains fluid when it comes into contact with acidic stomach content, and is therefore easy to digest. Furthermore it contains high levels of calcium (120mg/100ml; 100% of RDA), and adequate levels of vitamin A, zinc, iron (75% of RDA), iodine and vitamin D (89% of RDA). It is also a good source of all B vitamins, and contains high quality unsaturated fat. When it comes to choosing a milk formula for your toddler, GUM is the best way to go!
